Hi there.
AlanI'm a civil engineer who for the past 20 years or so has lived and worked mainly overseas on the implementation of water resource related aid projects funded by the World Bank, Asian Development Bank etc. Now retired back in Essex, I'm a member of the Archaeology Group (among others) of the Basildon & Billericay U3A.
While working in Saudi Arabia in the late '70s, on the construction of an arch dam, I undertook some archaeological field work (survey measurements, photographs etc) of the remains of an ancient Minaean / Sabean dam on behalf of the Seminar for Arabian Studies and sent/took the data, photos and samples back to London. I was also a member of the City of London Archaeology Society for a year in the mid 80's, while back in the UK for a while - I spent one whole Sunday in Southwark "tidying up" a backhoe trench full of old rags and broken clay tobacco pipes, upstream of Tower Bridge and my did it stink! That was the only dig I managed to get on.
Apart from this I have had no pukka training or experience of archaeology and so I'm looking forward to participating in our forthcoming project.
