LAARC VIP/U3A Project 2008 Home
Last year's U3A Volunteer's Working on Finds From Limehouse
Welcome to the homepage for 2008's collaborative project between the London Archaeological Archive & Research Centre (LAARC) and the University Of The Third Age (U3A)
Starting in September and running over 10 sessions, participants will learn about archaeological archiving techniques by repacking, reorganising and improving the conditions of material from 1987's excavation of the Roman Eastern cemetery at Mansell Street. They will get to handle both registered and general finds of all materials and finish by producing small research projects based on their work.
The project forms part of the new LAARC Volunteer Inclusion Project, which focuses on reorganising and improving the storage of the collections with the aim of created space for future archives, whilst improving the accessibility of past deposits.
This site intends to keep track of their progress and evaluate the project with comments from participants, staff and visitors to the site.
